Hiring Musicians: What’s to Know?

Vetting a music agency or particular artist(s) with your venue and established local vendors is always a good idea. You’ll discover that our relationships with other established vendors runs deep, as we’ve been in business for over 15 years now.

Having all the talent in the world does not make up for a lack of organization. Whether or not the person you’re in contact with is responsive and timely usually speaks volumes. It’s an agency’s full time job to answer your questions promptly. A musician usually wears many hats, and may not be so quick to address your needs. If a musician is very busy, or disorganized, the result is usually the same. Details can easily fall through the cracks. Ask yourself what level of professionalism you want from the various groups, or agencies you’re in touch with.

Customization and Flexibility are Important. We customize ensembles to suit the needs of each event, based on guest attendance and your specific demographic. We bring first-hand knowledge, having performed in each of the area’s venues. When you connect with us, we’ll make suggestions and will provide as many musical entertainment options to you as possible. We can adjust ensemble size, instrumentation, and repertoire, to accommodate your event budget and overall vision.

A really unique performance always makes hiring musicians worthwhile. If our performance is not several cuts above the musicians you’ve heard before, then we’re not doing our job. Please take a moment to listen to our Classical Charleston strings recordings, as this represents the quality that we aim for with any musical act we provide, whether a jazz ensemble, DJ, soloist or quartet.

Our string ensembles are extremely popular for Weddings, private parties and Corporate Events, because they complement Charleston’s historic surroundings, while offering repertoire and contemporary flavor that your guests won’t see coming — Metallica, Led Zeppelin to Mozart on violins, viola and cello, whether a string duo or quartet! Lastly, the jazz scene is growing in Charleston and customized jazz combos can be ideal for many events, especially receptions and corporate functions with much larger attendance.

Accountability is an important bonus from hiring artists through an agency. Charleston Entertainment’s goal is to provide consistent opportunities for the many artists we represent. In doing so, our musicians have a vested interest in performing in a way that keeps them at the top of our list.
