Arlene Felipe-Mille grew up in the Lowcountry and holds an MFA in Costume Design + Making for Theatre (full scholarship + stipend), including a brief study at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul, Turkey.

Professional Credits include: 5 seasons with Spoleto Festival USA’s Costume + Wardrobe Department; 9 years as Designer, Product Developer, Artisan, and Head of Sewing for Brackish; Adjunct professor at The Art Institute of Charleston – where she and her students organized + produced the 10th Anniversary Fashion Design Show.

Currently, she is co-director of Charleston Entertainment and serves on the board of three arts organizations: The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, The Charleston Symphony Orchestra League (CSOL), and The Gibbes Museum’s Society 1858. Additional causes she supports include Les Castors in Charleston (french-immersion school), Cinderella Day Charleston, The Preservation Society of Charleston, The Historic Charleston Foundation, and the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep.

Arts Experience includes:

  • Design + Installation of Brackish’s Pop-Up Shop, for the 2020 Gibbes’ Art of Design Luncheon.

  • Assistant + Puppeteer with Indonesian Artist Jumaadi, in his exhibit with Pablo Picasso at the Halsey (2014); Special Events Committee Member within the Advisory Board of the Halsey (2023-present).

  • Actively serves in the CSOL: The Dynamics (young patrons group), Membership, and Digital Support Committees. She will serve as a Board Member + Recording Secretary for the 2024-2025 Season. Service includes: Docent for the Spring Symphony Tour of Homes (’23), Check-In for Special Events + Membership Orientation, and Sales within the Designer Showhouse.

  • Docent for Historic Home Tours: The Charleston Festival, CSOL’s Designer Show House + Historic Home Tours.

  • 5 seasons in Costume + Wardrobe with Spoleto Festival, and 2 years of membership with SCENE (young patrons group, 2010-2015).

  • In Graduate School, her Thesis Designs placed First in Costume for Regional and National Theatre Conferences, and were included in the World Stage Design’s Online Exhibition. Her body of work was featured in the 2013 National Design Portfolio Review, held at the Bohemian National Hall in New York City.

Arlene lives in Charleston SC with her husband, Andrew, and their blue-merle pom, Louie. Outside of work and service, she is perfecting her French, and completing yoga teacher certification. She enjoys sampling exotic food, developing positive relationships, checking out too many books from the library, cultural experiences, architecture, and interiors across the world.
